FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in control systems of internal combustion engines (ICE). Method for controlling internal combustion engine (1) is proposed, comprising: reading the value of parameter (R; C), which characterizes a first operating point, and on its basis deriving a first predetermined value (CTI1) of the coolant temperature and a first predetermined value (Cr1) of the enrichment of the air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine. If, during the transition to a second operating point, the second temperature setpoint is less than the first setpoint, the following steps are provided: a) determining additional enrichment (Δr) to add to the second enrichment setpoint, b) reading exhaust gas temperature (Tgb) and (c) gradually reducing additional enrichment, depending on the read exhaust gas temperature.
EFFECT: invention enables to limit the temperature rise of an engine block with reduced fuel consumption.
