SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and systems for maintaining the coolant level and the relative glycol content therein. Methods and systems are proposed for maintaining the required level of coolant and relative glycol content in engine coolant by using water obtained from the vehicle’s on-board systems. According to one example, the method includes supplying water to an engine coolant tank in response to a decrease in engine coolant level below a threshold value. Also, the relative amount of glycol in the coolant is maintained at the threshold level by adding water to the coolant in response to an increase in the relative glycol content above the threshold value.
EFFECT: invention ensures maintenance of the water-glycol balance in the coolant and improves engine performance.
