FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Disclosed are methods for reliable self-diagnosis of a water injection system, which injects water into a motor in accordance with engine operating conditions, such as detonation, wherein the water injection system is filled manually or by collecting water on board the vehicle. By water injection error determined by change of preset set of engine operation parameters during linear change of water injection under selected operating conditions, presence of plugging in water path can be detected. Subsequent water injection can be corrected accordingly depending on degree of plugging.
EFFECT: invention increases reliability of detecting a fault (for example, plugging) in a water supply system, which improves accuracy of controlling injection of water into the engine, improvement of engine performance and reduction of probability of engine malfunction due to usage of contaminated water and inaccurate control of its feed.
