Composition for personal hygiene, which is an antiperspirant or deodorant, contains a soluble zinc polyphosphate complex obtained by combining ingredients containing an organic zinc salt, selected from a group comprising zinc lactate, zinc citrate, zinc acetate, zinc gluconate, zinc malate and zinc tartrate and a series of long-chain polyphosphates containing 6 to 30 phosphate polymer links and an aqueous solvent; where the relative amount of organic zinc salt and long-chain polyphosphates provides a molar ratio of phosphorus and zinc of at least 6:1 and less than 25:1. Also disclosed is a method for reducing perspiration in a subject, comprising providing a personal care composition and applying a personal care composition on the skin of a subject.
