FIELD: woodworking industry.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the woodworking industry, in particular to the production of oriented strand boards. Group of inventions includes a method of manufacturing oriented strand boards, as well as an oriented strand board containing torrefied excelsior, and the use of torrefied excelsior to reduce the release of volatile organic compounds from the boards. Excelsior is obtained from a suitable wood. Torrefaction is performed on at least a part of the excelsior by heating in an environment with low oxygen content or without oxygen under atmospheric pressure or elevated pressure at a temperature from 150 °C to 300 °C. Torrefied and non-torrefied excelsior are glued using at least one binder. Glued excelsior spread on a conveyor belt and pressed to obtain a board.

EFFECT: release of volatile organic compounds from oriented strand board is reduced.
