SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in the internal combustion engines. Proposed is a method for camshaft positioning. During idling of engine (10), camshaft (162) of the engine is set in motion by means of electric motor (166). Said electric motor is controlled by motor controller (170) which indicates the position of the motor and the position of the camshaft. Based on the camshaft position data, one or more engine operating parameters are determined to control the engine during idling of the engine using the engine controller. After idling of the engine, the position of the camshaft is determined on the basis of data from sensor (172) associated with the camshaft. Disclosed are methods for determining the position of the camshaft and engine control method.
