ULTRAVIOLET (UV) STERILIZATION CATHETERS AND CONNECTORS OF CATHETER Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC A61M39/16 A61M25/00 A61L2/10

Abstract RU 2686051 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: catheter connector for connecting the intravenous catheter delivery channel with intravenous catheter connector on the patient's side with detachment comprises an inner wall, an outer wall, one or more UV radiation sources, a flow sensor, an electronic circuit and a UV radiation reflector. Inner wall forms inner part of catheter connector and is made permeable for ultraviolet radiation. External wall forms an external part of the catheter connector. UV radiation sources are arranged between the inner wall and the outer wall, or on the outer wall and are arranged to emit UV radiation into the catheter connector inner part. Flow sensor is designed to detect fluid flow in the internal part of the catheter connector. Electronic circuit is intended for electric connection of UV radiation sources, flow sensor and power supply so that power is supplied to UV radiation sources when fluid flow is detected through inner part of catheter connector. Both the delivery channel and the connector on the side of the patient are made at least partially permeable for UV radiation. Flow sensor comprises electrodes which extend into the connector inner part, while power is supplied from the power supply to the UV radiation sources, when the fluid medium in the internal part of the connector has conductivity sufficient to conduct electricity between said electrodes. UV radiation reflector is placed between the outer wall and the inner wall or on the outer wall and is positioned to reflect UV radiation into the inside of the catheter. Catheter connector system for connecting the delivery channel and the catheter with the intravenous catheter connector on the side of the patient with the possibility of separation further comprises one or more optical fibers for transmitting UV radiation from the UV radiation source to the inside of the catheter connector. Catheter comprising a sterilizing portion with UV radiation comprises at least one of: an intravenous catheter, a urinary catheter and an endotracheal tube.

EFFECT: invention enables UV sterilization of the fluid medium as it flows through the catheter and/or catheter connector.
