SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the ledges detection device and to the ledges on road surface detection method. Ledges detection device includes the distance measuring module and circuits for the motion range, for the road surface gradient and for the ledges determination. Module determines the road surface height around the vehicle (V). Motion possibility area circuit estimates area of possibility of movement in the V travel direction. Road surface gradient circuit approximates curve of road surface gradient in area of possibility of motion in front of V on the basis of road surface height. Ledges determination circuit detects a ledge on the road surface based on the degree of matching the height of the measurement point with respect to the said curve and the degree of matching the height of the measurement point with respect to the curve, by means of which the road surface gradient is approximated in the expanded area in the V width direction.

EFFECT: higher accuracy of the road irregularities determining.
