SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hybrid vehicles. Hybrid vehicle engine control system contains a controller with instructions stored in its long-term memory to ensure the vehicle operation, including: in response to lower than threshold value required torque and lower than threshold value of system battery charging degree, engine with first compression ratio is operated using the Atkinson cycle. In response to higher than threshold value required torque, the engine is provided with second compression ratio using the Otto cycle with addition of fuel into injected fuel additive increasing the octane number. Second compression ratio is higher than the first compression ratio.
EFFECT: engine operation is optimized.
