FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing pyridine and methylpyridines, which comprises reacting ethanol, formaldehyde and ammonia in presence of 100 % water vapor, preliminarily subjected to high-temperature treatment, at 550 °C for 3 hours and subsequent treatment 0.3 n. solution of citrate acid Beta in H-form at 200–400 °C and bulk feed rate (w) equal to 2–10 h-1, ethanol:formaldehyde:ammonia molar ratio is 1.0:0.5–1.1:1.5.
EFFECT: novel method of producing a pyridine fraction with high content of picolines and lutidine and low content of "heavy" compounds in the reaction products, which are the cause of coke formation and rapid deactivation of the catalyst.
