SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a hand-held device, which generates an aerosol, such as an electrically controlled smoking device, and to a cartridge for use with a hand-held device, which generates aerosol. Hand-held aerosol-generating device comprises an elongated tubular component having an axial length and a holding power supply, and a mouthpiece portion having at least one air inlet and an outlet communicating with each other, wherein the mouthpiece is connected to the elongated tubular component with possibility of detachment, wherein the power supply has an annular configuration extending over at least a large portion of the axial length of the tubular component, and enclosing the elongated container, which is open towards a mouthpiece portion, for containing a cartridge comprising a substrate supply source forming an aerosol, and an electrically controlled evaporator.

EFFECT: providing a new configuration for a hand-held aerosol-generating system, which will provide dimensions which meet market and consumer requirements.
