FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in control systems of internal combustion engines. Disclosed are methods for detecting an imbalance of fuel-air mixture, which is characteristic for an imbalance engine cylinder. In one embodiment, the method comprises indicating an unbalance of the cylinder by comparing the time aligned readings of the oxygen sensors in the exhaust gases, at that, oxygen content sensors in the exhaust gases are located symmetrically opposite each other inside the outlet channel downstream of the catalytic neutraliser.
EFFECT: by this means it is possible to detect with high degree of accuracy imbalance of fuel-air mixture in uneven flow of exhaust gases, so that measures could be taken to reduce it, which will reduce emission from exhaust pipe.
