FIELD: motor vehicles industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the diagnosis of the degradation of an exhaust gas sensor in a motor vehicle. Method and system for identifying the condition of a malfunctioning oxygen sensor in the exhaust gas, located downstream of the catalytic converter in the exhaust system of the vehicle, is proposed. Method includes determining the ratio of the rate of change of the fractional oxidation state of the catalytic converter to the rate of change of the output voltage of the oxygen sensor. If this ratio is positive, a malfunction is diagnosed and, as a result, the engine is controlled without taking into account the feedback signal from the oxygen sensor.
EFFECT: increasing the efficiency and speed of diagnosing the malfunction of the exhaust gas sensor.
