FIELD: security systems.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system providing safety of nuclear power plants (NPP) and can be used in severe accidents leading to core meltdown, destruction of a nuclear reactor housing and melt release into space of a sealed shell of a nuclear power plant. System includes localization and cooling of the melt of the core of the nuclear reactor of the water-cooled type of the damper installed inside the body of the melt trap. System contains a melt trap installed under the bottom of the reactor housing, consisting of external and internal housings, between which there is a filler, filler for melt dilution, which is placed in the inner housing of the melt trap. Besides, in internal housing of melt trap additional damper is installed, consisting of central shell, power ribs connected with central shell, inclined plates located between power ribs, retainers ensuring attachment of damper to melt trap body.

EFFECT: high reliability of a system for localising and cooling a melt of a core of a nuclear reactor of a water-cooled type with high efficiency of removing heat from the melt owing to redistribution of energy through hydromechanical deviation of the molten metal by planes of the damper.
