SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method and a device for thermal reduction of sulphur dioxide present in gas to be treated and, in particular, in industrial exhaust gases. Gaseous oxidiser (6) is introduced into reaction zone (1, 201) and characterized by oxygen content of 50 vol. %. to 100 vol. %, gaseous fuel (7), gas to be treated (5) containing sulphur dioxide, and hydrogen containing reducing gas (7). Oxidising agent (6) and fuel (7) are introduced to form oxygen-fuel flame (2, 202), characterized by longitudinal axis XX. Gas to be treated is introduced (5) around oxygen-fuel flame (2, 202) in reaction zone (1, 201). Reducing gas (7) is fed into gas (5) to be treated in or before reaction zone (1, 201).
EFFECT: technical result is effective thermal reduction of SO2 to form a limited amount of soot and formed gaseous by-products.
