FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to gas-discharge engineering and can be used in development of high-voltage devices, for example surge arresters with subnanosecond switching with shearing discharger for formation of trailing edge of subnanosecond duration pulse. Gas-filled discharger comprises a shell consisting of a cylindrical metal housing and two insulators in the form of hollow truncated cones arranged along the device axis, large bases of which are connected to bases of metal housing, two electrodes located opposite each other on end surfaces of smaller bases of insulators, inside which pass axial leads of corresponding electrodes. In the shell there are two additional electrodes, one of which is internal, made in the form of a disc with rounded edges, is placed on the smaller base of one of the insulators and is connected to the main electrode and its output, closing the connection point of the output of the main electrode to the insulator, and the second additional electrode – external, having the toroid shape, is fixed on the inner surface of the metal housing, forming with the internal additional electrode a spark discharge gap in the form of a ring.
EFFECT: providing subnanosecond switching and longer service life.
