FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: system for determining distance comprises an electromagnetic output for providing a first beam of electromagnetic radiation, an electromagnetic input for receiving a first beam reflected from the object to determine distance from the object, a casing containing a permeable electromagnetic radiation side wall surrounding the casing central axis, and a first support element configured to rotate inside the casing about a first axis of rotation coaxial with the central axis. Electromagnetic output and the input are arranged inside the casing and rest on the first support element, the rotation of which controls the first beam and the electromagnetic input for reception of the first beam reflected from the object. Electromagnetic output is offset from the central axis such that the path of the first beam to the side wall does not cross the central axis and that the electromagnetic input is located outside the path of the second beam defined by the first beam from the side wall. Angle of incidence between first beam path and surface normal relative to side wall exceeds 5 degrees.

EFFECT: technical result is reduction of interference due to mirror reflection of beam from side wall of housing.
