FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in internal combustion engines containing an exhaust gas recirculation system. First group of outlet valves (8) connected to the first outlet manifold (84) with gas distribution phases different from those of the second group of outlet valves (6) connected to the second outlet header (80) is operated. First outlet manifold (84) is connected to outlet channel (74). Spent gases through second group of outlet valves (6) are directed to intake manifold (44) of engine. Second group of outlet valves (6) has smaller height of lifting, than the first group of outlet valves (8). Position of first valve (54) located in first channel (50) connected between intake channel (28) and the second outlet header (80) is diagnosed. On the output signal of pressure sensor (34) located in the second exhaust manifold (80), the engine actuator is adjusted to adjust engine (10) operation depending on the diagnosed position. Embodiments of the method for the engine and system for the engine are disclosed.
EFFECT: technical result consists in prevention of deterioration of characteristics of one or more valve systems.
