FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, specifically to production of antifriction inserts based on modified polytetrafluoroethylene for artificial joint endoprostheses and a method for production thereof, and can be used in friction assemblies of endoprosthesis of hip, knee, shoulder, elbow joints, as well as intervertebral discs. Endoprosthesis insert represents a part with curvilinear surface made from modified polytetrafluoroethylene. Initial blanks of polytetrafluoroethylene are treated with high-energy ionizing radiation (alpha radiation, electron radiation, irradiation with protons, neutrons and other ionizing particles, braking gamma-radiation and gamma-radiation) at temperature strictly higher than melting point of crystalline phase of polymer in an oxygen-free medium. Polymer workpiece is processed, in particular, using an electron accelerator generating braking gamma-radiation to an absorbed dose of 0.5–500 kGy or an energy equivalent coherent radiation of high energies. During irradiation polymer temperature is reduced no more than 0.5 °C/10 kGy. After treatment with ionizing radiation, the polymer is cooled to room temperature at a rate of not more than 60 °C/h.

EFFECT: reduced development of destruction of polymer sections, and as a result, reduced intensity of wear, respectively, longer service life of insert and guaranteed operation for more than 10 years.
