Aerosol generating system (100) comprises liquid storage part (210) for holding liquid aerosol-forming substrate (230); aerosol generating means (220) configured to receive liquid aerosol-forming substrate (230) from liquid storage portion (210); one or more capillary wicks (250) configured to carry liquid aerosol-forming substrate (230) from liquid storage portion (210) to aerosol-generating means (220); inclination sensor (130) configured to measure the orientation of liquid storage portion (210); and electric circuit (120). Electric circuit (120) is configured to track orientation of liquid storage portion (210) measured by inclination sensor (130) and determine loss of liquid aerosol-forming substrate (230) based on orientation of liquid storage portion (210).
