Another alternative embodiment of the composition for local administration for maintaining the balance of healthy microflora in the urogenital area of the patient in need thereof includes a first therapeutic agent consisting of cyclodextrin or pectin substance, and a second therapeutic agent selected from the group consisting of pectin substance, pentose, disaccharide and non-digestible polysaccharide. In all embodiments, the first therapeutic agent and the second therapeutic agent are different, wherein the total concentration of the therapeutic agents is less than 10.0 wt./vol. %. Another embodiment is a method of maintaining a balance of healthy microflora in the urogenital area of the patient, comprising a local introduction into the urogenital area of the patient of a composition containing a first therapeutic agent consisting of pentose or disaccharide, and a second therapeutic agent selected from a group consisting of a non-digestible polysaccharide, an organic acid, cyclodextrin, pectin substance, pentose or disaccharide, where the first therapeutic agent and the second therapeutic agent are different.
