FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to thermometry and can be used to measure molten metal bath temperature in electric arc furnace. Disclosed is a method of feeding wire with core into molten metal contained in a reservoir, which includes location of wire with core in first position, in which front end of wire with core is located near point of input into reservoir. Input point is located above the surface of the molten metal, and the wire with the core includes an optical fibre and a shell surrounding the optical fibre on the sides. Method also includes feeding wire with core at first speed during first period of time from first position to second position, in which front end of wire with core is immersed into molten metal and lies in the measurement plane, so that the front end of the optical fibre protrudes from the shell and is exposed to the action of the molten metal, and subsequent feed of the wire with the core at a second speed during the second period of time for the first measurement in the molten metal.
EFFECT: technical result is high accuracy and information value of obtained data with possibility of performing measurements in different tanks with molten metal with allowance for destruction of optical fibre during measurement.
