SUBSTANCE: invention relates to tobacco industry, more particularly to electronic cigarettes. Disclosed is a system which generates an aerosol and comprises a liquid storage portion comprising a body holding a liquid aerosol-forming substrate and capillary medium (22). Housing has a hole through which the liquid-permeable heater assembly comprises combination (30) of electroconductive threads, made with formation of a substantially non-planar surface of collision with air. Capillary medium (22) is in contact with heater assembly, wherein liquid substrate forming an aerosol is drawn through capillary medium (22) into combination (30) of electrically conductive threads, and capillary medium (22) comprises capillary medium opening (28) allowing air flow (42) to pass through capillary medium (22). Present invention also relates to a method of making a cartridge for use in an aerosol generating system.

EFFECT: technical result is improved formation of aerosol and improved growth of aerosol drops, as well as avoiding the occurrence of hot spots, especially in the middle part of heater assembly.
