SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an aerosol generating system which comprises a liquid storage portion comprising a housing holding a liquid aerosol-forming substrate and a capillary medium, wherein a housing is provided in the housing; fluid-permeable heating assembly comprising a combination of electrically conductive threads configured to form a collision surface with air, wherein the liquid-permeable heating assembly extends across the housing opening, and wherein the thread combination has an opening in the threads allowing the air flow to pass through; wherein capillary medium is in contact with heating unit; wherein the aerosol-forming liquid substrate is drawn through the capillary medium into the electrically conductive filaments combination and wherein capillary medium comprises capillary medium opening, which is passing through capillary medium by continuation of hole in threads, and wherein the aerosol-generating system comprises a main housing and an air inlet port made in the main housing side wall, so that ambient air can be drawn in direction of heating element from air inlet at angle of about or not more than 90° in relation to air channel formed by capillary medium opening.

EFFECT: technical result consists in elimination of occurrence of hot spots, especially in middle part of heating unit.
