FIELD: smoking accessories.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to aerosol generating system (300) and to method of its control. Aerosol generating system comprises aerosol-generating article (310), luminescent material, heater (340) and aerosol-generating device (330). Luminescent material exhibits a temperature-dependent characteristic of phosphorescence. Aerosol-generating article contains at least a component which contains aerosol-forming substrate (314). Heater is arranged and configured to heat the luminescent material and at least one component which contains an aerosol-forming substrate. Aerosol generating device comprises holder (334) for at least partial arrangement of aerosol-generating article, light source (343) for illuminating and exciting luminescent material, detector (342) for determining the temperature-dependent phosphorescence characteristic of the luminescent material and electrical hardware (338) configured to control heating by the heater based on the determined phosphorescence characteristic.

EFFECT: disclosed are an aerosol-generating system and a method of controlling said aerosol.
