FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: heating device is provided for thermal stimulation of alloy shape memory layer, wherein said layer changes from initial shape at first temperature to second preset shape at second temperature. Application of electric field to layer of electroactive polymer stimulates this layer to deform in response to mechanical stress, which can exceed mechanical stress of alloy layer, when last layer is in low-temperature phase. In addition, methods of operation are provided, which include stimulation of the polymer layer to deform in the opposite "direction" with respect to deformation of the alloy layer, which enables the actuator to be "released" between movements. Methods of making actuator are also provided.
EFFECT: thermally and electrically controlled miniaturized actuator comprises a two-layer structure formed from a shape memory alloy layer connected to the electroactive polymer layer.
