FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to actuators which use electroactive polymers and methods of operation thereof. Essence: actuator (21) comprises electroactive polymer (EAP), electrode system (10 and 12) and exciter (20) for generation of electric excitation signals. Electroactive polymeric structure (14) provides inclusion in response to voltage difference, wherein inclusion has a connection direction, which does not depend on polarity of voltage difference. Method includes supply of electric excitation signal to electrode system. Electric excitation signal comprises first excitation electric signal (45, 55) during first period (41, 51), having first polarity, and second excitation electric signal (46, 56) in second period (43, 53) having a second polarity opposite to first polarity.
EFFECT: reducing or preventing accumulation of charges, which improves efficiency and/or service life of the device.
