DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUE FOR OPTIC NERVE ATROPHY DUE TO MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS Russian patent published in 2020 - IPC A61B8/14 A61B8/10

Abstract RU 2712305 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used in diagnosing optic atrophy caused by multiple sclerosis (MS). That is ensured by scanning the optic disc area and the peripapillary region of both eyes in a circle with diameter of 3.46  mm by spectral optical coherence tomography with measurement of the average thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) according to the Optical Disc Cube 200×200 protocol according to the RNFL Thickness Analysis program. Average thickness of the RNFL is measured in each of the quadrants of the optic disc: temporal, nasal, upper and lower. Additionally, a computer perimetry is programmed according to program of 120 points and magnetic resonance tomography of the brain with aim study of the projection zones of the visual analyzer. If the average thickness of the RNFL of the right and/or left eye in the temporal quadrant is less than 52 mcm, scotomata are detected in the field of vision of the right and/or left eye within 20 degrees from the center of the visual field in a combination with the presence of at least two centers of demyelination of the brain, among which at least one focus is located in the projection of the visual analyzer, diagnosing the optic nerve atrophy of the right and/or left eye in MS patients.

EFFECT: method provides reliable diagnosis of optic nerve atrophy due to MS, which provides well-timed appointment of a course of conservative treatment and stabilization of visual functions in patients with MS.
