FIELD: measuring equipment.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measurement equipment, in particular to measurement of dielectric permeability of material in free space. Disclosed is a method of determining dielectric permeability of material, based on the phenomenon of reflection of electromagnetic energy from a plate of dielectric material, according to the invention, measuring the thickness of the plate from dielectric material and the dependence of the phase shift of the reflected wave on the incident and transmitted waves in the frequency range, from which the frequency corresponding to the half-wave thickness of the plate from the dielectric material is determined, and the dielectric constant of the material is calculated by formula:

where c is light speed; f is measurement frequency corresponding to half-wave thickness of plate from dielectric material; d2 is geometrical thickness of plate from dielectric material; α1 is angle of wave incidence on plate from dielectric material; ε2 is dielectric material permittivity.

EFFECT: high accuracy of measuring permittivity of a sample of material in free space.
