FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, particularly to geriatrics, and can be used for diagnosing sarcopenia in elderly and senile individuals. For this purpose, muscular mass is evaluated and criteria of senile asthenia syndrome (SAS) are determined by anthropometry, dynamometry, "Walking at 4 m" test, "Age not interference" questioning. If the patient has normal anthropometric data or excess, the sarcopenia is not diagnosed; if observing rectus abdominis muscle thickness reduction without SAS criteria, presarcopenia is diagnosed; if one of the SAS criteria is attached to a rectus abdominis muscle reduced thickness, sarcopenia is diagnosed; if rectus abdominis muscle reduced thickness is joined with two SAS criteria, then severe sarcopenia is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method enables detecting presarcopenia, sarcopenia and severe sarcopenia in elderly and senile individuals.
