FIELD: geriatrics.
SUBSTANCE: used to determine a decrease in total muscle mass of the body corresponding to sarcopenia. An ultrasound examination of the rectus abdominis muscle is performed. The thickness of the rectus abdominis muscle is measured and the probability of the patient having sarcopenia is calculated, taking into account age, using the original formula. When the value of the calculated coefficient is 0.651 or more, normal muscle mass is determined - the absence of sarcopenia, and when its value is below 0.651, reduced muscle mass is determined - the presence of sarcopenia.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase the accuracy of diagnosing sarcopenia in elderly and senile patients by ultrasound examination of only the rectus abdominis muscle by assessing the totality of the most significant indicators.
