SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medical equipment, namely to means for neutron capture therapy. Beam forming unit for neutron capture therapy comprises beam input, target, wherein target is configured to enter nuclear reaction with incident beam of protons from beam input to produce neutrons, wherein neutrons form neutron beam, and the neutron beam determines an axis, a retarder adjacent to the target, wherein the retarder is configured to decelerate neutrons to energies of epithermal neutrons and comprises at least a conical structure comprising a main body and an additional section surrounding the main body, wherein materials of main body and additional section are different, reflector surrounding retarder, wherein reflector is configured to divert neutrons, deviated from main axis, back to increase intensity of epithermal neutron beam, thermal neutron absorber adjacent to retarder, wherein the thermal neutron absorber is used to absorb thermal neutrons to prevent overdose in the superficial healthy tissue during the therapy, radiation shield located inside the beam forming unit, wherein the radiation shield is used for screening leakage of neutrons and photons in order to reduce the dose of healthy tissue, not exposed to radiation, and output of beam, wherein main body is made of any of D₂O, AlF₃, Fluental™, CaF₂, Li₂CO₃, MgF₂ and Al₂O₃, and additional section is made of any of Zn, Mg, Al, Ti, La, Pb, Zr and Bi.

EFFECT: use of the invention enables reducing the dose for healthy tissue of the region not exposed to radiation.
