SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a system for counting the number of cycles of periodic movement of a subject. Disclosed is a system for realizing a method, comprising a device and a machine-readable medium, wherein the device comprises: an input unit configured to receive discrete data of the accelerometer over time, indicating movement of at least part of the body of the subject, wherein input unit is configured to receive anthropometric data of subject, classifying device configured to classify a subject motion with assignment to one of several traffic classes based on discrete data of the accelerometer, wherein each motion class relates to a different periodic motion speed range, wherein the classifying device is configured to be used as a signal power attribute of the high-frequency components and/or low-frequency components of the accelerometer data, memory device configured to store a table comprising a periodicity value of the subject movement per unit time for each motion class, and a unit for calculating the number of cycles of movement, configured to calculate the number of cycles of periodic movement of the subject per unit of time for a given time or continuously in time by using periodicity of the class of movement, to which movement was classified as classification.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides higher battery saving during data acquisition of accelerometer data.
