FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of carbon sorbent from vegetable carbonaceous material. Method is realized using fibrous residues of carbonaceous vegetal raw material, for example, sugar cane or sunflower, impregnated with potassium hydroxide solution with concentration of 1.0–4.0 mol/l, drying and briquetting. Surface of briquettes is screened with a layer of thermally stable material of mineral origin, for example, different-fraction quartz sand with prevailing finely dispersed fraction or bentonite-like clay in powder form. Carbonisation is carried out in a pyrolysis furnace at 600–800°C for 10 minutes. Obtained products are unloaded from the furnace, the activated carbon is separated from the chamotized powdered product formed from the mineral component. Activated carbon is washed with water to remove residual foreign substances.
EFFECT: sorbent proposed according to the present invention can be used for purification of waste water from organic pollutants such as phenol, dichlorophenol and kerosene.
