FIELD: petrochemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: methods for producing activated carbon from petroleum coke obtained by delayed coking of heavy petroleum residues. The method includes preliminary joint or separate grinding to a particle size of not more than 100 mcm of petroleum coke with a pore-forming component, mixing the components until a homogeneous mass, pressing the mixture into granules by any known method, carbonization with simultaneous pore formation, and surface modification. Moreover, in the process of high-temperature carbonization, the surface of the carbon-containing material is initially treated with products of thermal destruction of cellulose, and after carbonization is completed and cooled to a temperature below 80°C, the surface of the carbon-containing material is impregnated with a solution of urea derivatives and dried.
EFFECT: improved sorption properties of activated carbon, increased yield of the target product, and reduced amount of waste.
