FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of steel. Slab from austenitic stainless steel is produced by casting into rectangular crystallizer through submerged barrel with two holes, installed in the center of crystallizer. To control mode of continuous casting and electromagnetic mixing electric energy is supplied to molten steel near hardening crust surface at depth providing thickness of said crust from 5 to 10 mm, at least, in central position in direction of crystallizer long side. At that, flows are formed in directions opposite to each other in direction of long side of crystallizer on both long sides, and expression is observed: 10<ΔT<50×FEMS+10, where ΔT is difference between average temperature of melted steel during casting and temperature of its crystallisation beginning, (°C), and FEMS is an indicator of mixing intensity, calculated as a function of the speed of movement of molten steel occurring in the direction of the long side and occurring when exposed to electromagnetic mixing, and casting speed.
EFFECT: reduced surface defects of the slab passing in the longitudinal direction.
