FIELD: engines.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is engine control system. Proposed system comprises cylinder communicated with intake channel and exhaust channel, EGR pipe to recycle exhaust gas portion from exhaust channel to intake channel and EGR cooler arranged on EGR pipe. System also includes a sensor placed on the exhaust channel and configured to determine the nitrogen oxide emission volume and the controller. Controller is configured to determine whether cooling efficiency of the EGR cooler has been reduced based on the amount of nitrogen oxide emission determined by the sensor. Controller is configured to execute EGR cooler regeneration process to remove solid particles from EGR cooler, when cooling efficiency of EGR cooler is determined. Engine control method is also proposed.
EFFECT: limiting the increase in engine nitrogen oxide emissions.
