In the method of generating target vehicle speed with driving assistance, target vehicle speed is generated in accordance with obstacles preventing vehicle movement. At the same time the target route of vehicle movement is generated. Obtaining information on location related to obstacles in relation to target route of movement. Lateral deviations to obstacles relative the target route are calculated. Shorter virtual distance for an obstacle having a smaller lateral deviation than an obstacle having a greater lateral deviation is calculated. Obstacle for which virtual distance is the least is selected. Shortest virtual distance is calculated and the target vehicle speed is generated based on the shortest virtual distance.
