FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to formation of continuous high-current ion beams by extraction thereof from a dense ECR discharge plasma generated in an open magnetic trap by powerful radiation of millimeter wavelength range. Device comprises magnetic system for creation of magnetic field of mirror-type configuration with intensity sufficient for generation of zones inside ECR vacuum chamber, system for formation and extraction of ion beam from plasma, containing plasma electrode and accelerating electrode and at least two additional electrodes located after the accelerating electrode one after another: a focusing electrode which is at the same potential as the plasma electrode, and then an output electrode, which is located, as well as an accelerating electrode, below ground potential.

EFFECT: possibility of generating high-quality high-current ion beam with low emittance and minimum divergence angle in conditions of continuous source operation.
