FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: formation of high-current continuous ion beams by extracting them from the dense plasma of an ECR discharge created in an open magnetic trap by powerful radiation in the millimeter wavelength range. This is achieved by adding an insert of dielectric material that insulates most of the discharge chamber tube located in the immediate vicinity of the accelerating electrode and part of the surface of the plasma electrode, with the exception of the zone immediately adjacent to the ion beam acceleration region near the hole.

EFFECT: ability to operate the source in a continuous mode, reducing the likelihood of electrical breakdown and the negative impact of a parasitic discharge between the discharge chamber pipe and the accelerating electrode of the ion beam formation system.
