FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for generating and compensating for an arbitrary astigmatic wave front and a device for realizing said method. Technical results are provided due to the presence of two transparent substrates 1, 2 with transparent high-resistance coatings 3, 17 and contact electrodes 4-7 and 8-11 deposited on the aperture edges, wherein transparent high-resistance coatings and contact electrodes are arranged at angle of 45 degrees relative to each other. On high-resistance transparent coating and contact electrodes of both substrates there are orienting coatings 12, 13, between which layer 16 of nematic liquid crystal of specified thickness is arranged, at that substrates 1, 2 are crossed for formation of octagonal aperture. On contact electrodes 4-7 and 8-11 on both substrates there supplied are alternating potentials for formation of high-resistance coatings on different transparent substrates of voltage distribution and phase delay profile in form of surface of hyperbolic paraboloid, which rotation angle relative to the aperture center and deflection depth are determined by applied potentials, which provides formation of astigmatic wave front with different angular orientation and astigmatism value.

EFFECT: invention improves energy efficiency, wide operating spectral range and manufacturability of the device and its control system.
