FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of operating an internal combustion engine, in particular, a diesel engine. Result is achieved by using external device (39) for recirculating exhaust gases, by means of which exhaust gases (25) discharged by internal combustion engine (7) can be again supplied to internal combustion engine (7), wherein exhaust gas recirculation device (39) has recirculation installation device (43), by means of which flow rate of recycled exhaust gases (25) can be set; wherein closing time setting device (47) is used, by means of which closing time of at least one inlet valve of internal combustion engine (7) can be adjusted, wherein by means of closing time setting device (47) the main cycle of internal combustion engine (7) can be installed, in which at least one internal combustion engine (7) intake valve is closed in the crankshaft turning angle range from 1° to 40°, in particular, from 10° to 40° turning angle of crankshaft after BDP (bottom dead point). According to the invention, for the nitrogen oxides recovery by the internal combustion engine (7), by means of the closing time setting device (47), a nitrogen oxide reduction cycle can be introduced, wherein at least one internal combustion engine (7) intake valve closes earlier or later than in the main cycle; wherein control unit (57) is used, by means of which closing time setting device (47) and adjustment device (43) of recirculation are controlled and/or controlled as a function of internal combustion engine (7) torque, wherein, if torque (M) of internal combustion engine (7) falls below at least a predetermined threshold value (MThreshold) of torque, then internal combustion engine (7) operates in the main cycle, and recirculation of exhaust gases is provided by setting device (43) of recirculation, and if torque (M) of internal combustion engine (7) exceeds a predetermined threshold value (MThreshold) of torque, then internal combustion engine (7) operates in nitrogen oxide reduction cycle, and exhaust gas recirculation is blocked by means of recirculation setting device (43).
EFFECT: technical result is creation of method of operation of internal combustion engine, in particular, diesel engine, as well as device, by means of which it is possible to control operation of this internal combustion engine with high efficiency, and emissions of internal combustion engine pollutants could be effectively reduced.
