FIELD: oil, gas and coke-chemical industries.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to industrial production of oligomers of alpha-olefins and can be used in petrochemical industry and in organic synthesis. Disclosed is a method of producing a base of synthetic motor oils characterized by an index of kinematic viscosity at 100 °C KV100 in range of 10–100 cSt, by catalytic oligomerisation of alpha-olefins with subsequent catalytic hydrogenation. Catalyst oligomerisation of alpha-olefins used is zirconium complexes with ligands based on indeno[1,2-b]indole fragments linked by dimethylsilylene or dimethylene bridge, in form of mixtures of rac- and meso-forms:

where Z = SiMe2 or CH2CH2 bridge, R1, R2 are hydrogen or alkyl substitute, R3 is alkyl or aryl substitute.
EFFECT: invention enables to obtain, with output of not less than 85 %, structurally homogeneous hydrogenated oligomers of alpha-olefins, having significantly higher viscosity indices (by 20–50 units) as compared to products of oligomerisation of alpha-olefins on an individual catalyst and characterized by low degree of unsaturation (IN < 0.2).
