FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to industrial production of oligomers of alpha-olefins and can be used in petrochemical industry and in organic synthesis. Described is a method of producing compositionally uniform oligomers of alpha-olefins followed by catalytic hydrogenation, intended for use as bases of synthetic motor oils and characterized by kinematic viscosity at 100 °C KV100 = 3–10 cSt. Oligomerization is carried out at temperature of 60–140 °C in an atmosphere of molecular hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst which is a meso-form of zirconocene dichlorides based on cyclopentadienyl ligands, activated with trialkylaluminium and tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate with subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of oligomers.

EFFECT: technical result provided by the given set of features is achieving more than 98 % conversion of alpha-olefin after 4–6 hours of reaction with ratio of monomer/Zr 200,000:1, achievement of not less than 90 % output of a mixture of oligomers of alpha-olefins and achieving at least 70 % output of oligomers with KV100 in range of 3–10 cSt.
