FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of preventing oscillations of optical discharge in order to stabilize broadband optical radiation with high spectral brightness and is of interest for applications in microelectronics, spectroscopy, photochemistry and other fields. Initial plasma ignition is performed by external pulsed laser, or by short-term increase of power of one or several lasers used for optical discharge, or using two pin electrodes located near the optical discharge, between which a breakdown voltage pulse is applied. Emission of at least one of the used lasers is modulated by a sinusoidal signal with frequency corresponding to multiple portions of resonant acoustic frequencies of the gas volume of the discharge chamber.
EFFECT: prevention of oscillatory instability of optical discharge and improvement of its spatial stability due to modulation of laser radiation.
