FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio engineering, navigation and can be used to calculate three-dimensional coordinates of an air target using a range-finding method when radio transmitters of navigation signals and a receiver with known coordinates on a flat area are located. Method employs a multi-position ground-based surveillance system of radio transmitters-an aerial target-receiver comprising N navigation transmitter radio transmitters at N ≥ 4, an aerial target and a receiver synchronized with radio transmitters, receiving signals reflected from the air target, estimating distances of radio transmitters-air target-receiver and determining coordinates of air target x, y and distance r0 between target and receiver. Measurements of all distances of radio transmitters-air target-receiver and calculation of coordinates of target are carried out in one receiver, which does not require arrangement of additional communication channels and additional centre of collection and processing of measurement information.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to provide determination of coordinates of the air target based on measurement results of distances.
