FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to ophthalmology, and can be used for treating patients with endocrine ophthalmopathy by deep orbital decompression. Patient with optic neuropathy as a result of endocrine ophthalmopathy forms a bone "window" in the lateral wall of the orbit with removal of a "triangle" of a large wing of a sphenoid bone. Chamfer profile of the posterior rib of the bone "window" is formed in the projection of the abdomen of the external rectus of the eye for at least 7 mm. Bone resection is performed immediately above the dura mater with an ultrasonic osteodestructor exposing its section with diameter of up to 10 mm.

EFFECT: method provides near to maximum removal of bone tissue in region of triangle of large wing of wedge with considerable reduction of intraorbital pressure and, respectively, reduced compression of the optic nerve with a reduced risk of severe complications by creating a chamfered profile of the posterior rib of the bone "window" in the projection of the rectus of the external rectus muscle.
