FIELD: fiber-optical technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended to determine the level of liquid media with different refractive indices with a high degree of accuracy. A method for controlling the liquid level, including immersing one of the ends of the optical fiber ligh guiding element into a controlled container, illuminating the second end of the light-guiding element, evaluating the power, while the optical signal of one emitter is simultaneously given to at least two ends of the optical fiber light-guiding sensitive elements that are at the same level, and a number of signals reflected from the ends are recorded, and the result is evaluated. A device that includes a radiation source and receiver optically coupled to the output poles of a directional fiber-optic splitter of no less than X-type, the input poles of which are optically coupled with the ends of the sensitive elements of the sensors, and optical delay lines are connected to the output ports of the splitter, starting from the second one, in the form of pieces of optical fiber, the length of which is a function of the pause between pulses of the radiation source and is individual for each channel.
EFFECT: reliable method is created for measuring the liquid level and a fireproof and interference-free sensor for implementing this method is provided.
