FIELD: controlling.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for determining, with a high degree of accuracy, the level of liquid media with different refraction indices, including that in non-stationary objects. A method for controlling the level of a liquid, including submerging one of the faces of the fibre light guide element into the controlled container, illuminating the second face of the light guide element, followed by assessing the power of the signal reflected from the submerged face, wherein illumination is executed by at least two emitters with non-multiple wavelengths, and the result is estimated from the higher value of the power of the reflected signal for the given wavelengths. The sensor includes a sensitive element with a signal face of the light guide, an input fibre light guide, a directed fibre-optic splitter, an emission source and a photodetector are connected to the output poles of the splitter and the input pole is connected to the input fibre light guide, wherein no less than one additional emission source with a non-multiple emission wavelength relative to the first source is connected to the output pole of the splitter.
EFFECT: creation of a reliable method for measuring the level of a liquid and a fire-resistant and noise-free sensor for implementation of this method.
