SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrically controlled aerosol generating system that includes charger (201) containing primary power source (203) and extended aerosol generating device (220) containing secondary power source (226). The aerosol generating device has near end (223), far end (224), and main part (225) extending between the near end and the far end. The charger has a docking layout designed to engage with the aerosol generating device, while the docking layout contains space (205) for docking formed between first end (206) and opposite second end (207), located at a distance from the first end and fixed relatively to it. Electrical contacts (227, 228) are located at least one of the near or far ends of the aerosol generating device to engage with corresponding electrical contacts (217, 218) located at least one of the first end and the second end of the docking layout. The docking space accommodates the longitudinal size of the extended aerosol generating device between the first end and the second end. The aerosol generating device can be engaged with the docking layout by means of a transverse movement.
